In any creative endeavor, most if not all of us are faced with the need not to know rather than face the truth of what is. We become attached to the world as we know it and can become quite comfortable in our ways of being even if conditions are unhealthy for some aspect of our being. In our comfort of the known, we are reluctant to change and change is inevitable because of the ebb and flow of Creation. We have a need not to know so that we do not interfere with the experience our mind chose or wants to have. We would rather not know the truth of what is if it interferes with what we desire or want.

There are several reasons that seem to exist as to why we have the need not to know. They included: taking responsibility for what we experience; seeing the truth of reality and feel its pain; fear loss of control of our lives and what our mind want to do; come to understand we are not who we thought we were and who we think we are; more work to do; and seeing aspects of the future.

Taking responsibility for what we experience

One of the primary reasons for the need not to know is responsibility. If we know and have knowledge of truth, we then know that if we deny what we know, we create our own pain and nothing occurs without our consent at some level of our being. We can blame no one but ourselves for what we experience. If we understood how we create the experiences we have with our thoughts and how our attachments create our pains, we would have to take responsibility for all that we experience in life. We would have no one to blame for things not working out as we wished. We could no longer be a victim and see ourselves held as the mercy of anyone, including God. We could not look to anyone to come and fix our life. They can help us, but they cannot fix it. Only we can do that. We would have to look into our own being and see what we needed to change and that is too much for many to do. In takes a strong will, a sense of purpose and the determination to change oneself and hold to those changes until the external world changes in response. The inner is reflected in the outer. We need to make the inner changes first. This process takes time and many are unwilling to wait. We assume everything can be done quickly but as a tree, it only grows so fast and growth takes time and energy.

Seeing the truth of reality and feel its pain

A second reason for the need not to know is when we see the truth of what is, we also become open to feel what is as it is. In being open to feeling what is, there are two sets of pains we will experience. There is our pain and the pains of the world.

As we begin to see the truth of what is, we will remember things in the past and feel the aspects of loss we never fully process. We will remember the trauma and terror from the past and begin to think they will reappear in the future. As we begin to process our pain, we will begin to see we experience pain that is not our pain. Rather, we begin to be able to feel the pain of others when they are unable to live what they incarnated to do or carry unprocessed pain of life for we are all interconnected and one.

We can begin to see we can feel the pain of others as our own for we also suffer when another’s gifts are unable to flow forth for the gifts another brings into the world is also for us. Feeling the pain of others is the more profound aspect of why we have the need not to know. We would see we have created a world of pain and suffering by what we think and believe and the actions we take based on what we think and believe. Yet, rather than deal with the pain, we have numbed ourselves and raised the threshold to feel pain tremendously high. Being open to what is and living with knowing would allow us to begin to know why things happen the way the do. We will being to see how much we unknowingly cause pain in ourselves and others because of we struggle to hold to the ego we all have created for ourselves. Observations suggest that the issue of pain is the greatest of all the obstacles that keep us in the need not to know.

Rather than being open to the subtle feelings we can sense, many of us have set our awareness of body sensations to a very high level. More often than not, pain is often the only feeling we feel. In essence, pain is needed to wake us up. Most sensations which can be experienced as feelings tend to be an order of magnitude or more below pain and some feelings are only a wisp and very fleeting in its sensation. Yet each feeling, whether the faintest whisper or the loudest scream, contains information that our body is communicating to our consciousness.

We can relearn how to listen and how to understand why we feel the way we do and where any one feeling originates. To do so, all we need to do is set the intention to uncover the information that is being revealed and ask our body wisdom and intuitive guidance what lies behind the pain. But we have to have the intention to hear what is communicated. Most don’t want to hear the truth. They would rather not listen to what is being said and why it is said. In many ways it is the fear of the truth of reality that does not allow us to hear.

Because we feel and sense others quite naturally in the oneness of the universe, many of us carry the burdens of others yet we don’t realize that we do and how we do it. We pick up other people’s pain and carry it as our own. It take a great sensitivity and flexibility with our intuitive guidance to discover whether it is our pain or the pain of another that we feel. Most carry the pain of and dissatisfaction of the parents and/or care givers without realizing it.

The physical experience we have are a direct reflection of who and what we are even if all aspects are not visibly expressed and we are unaware of what we may be sensing. Although we may not be aware of all that we sense, all that we sense is still expressed as a total summation in an integrated fashion in the experiences we have. For example, no matter how good and happy we think our childhood was, if our care givers in any way were not free to live true to their essence in all ways for all facets of their being, they passed those limitations nonconsciously onto us. Because of the example they set of how we define ourselves by the experiences we have, those limitations and lack of freedom get transferred to us in the experience we have with our care givers. Because these experiences occur so early in life, and they become very deeply embedded within our being and body memories without our awareness. The end result is we carry their pain and inability to live life freely and we don’t even realize it.

Although there is much that we would enjoy seeing and knowing in begin open to the truth that is, there would also be much that we consider too unpleasant and in the end we prefer the need not to know. Rather than deal with the pain and understand the gift of pain, we all find some way, some excuse that keeps us from knowing. There will always be a reason why we cannot do the work that needs to be done to move us out of the need not to know. The excuse will always seem valid and real, yet, they are only that, illusions and excuses.

Fear loss of control of our lives and what our mind want to do

When we know the truth, our mind is no longer free to think what it wants and do what it wants. Many of our decision are made by the fact we know nonconsciously we will transform our psyche in a way that will essentially destroy our ego as we currently know it and it will be destroyed beyond our wildest imagination. Our ego cannot and will not be able to control what occurs. If we are not willing to consciously surrender and flow with what arises we will simply cause ourselves to retreat deeper into a shell of isolation and separation or cause ourselves to experience some type or kind of illness or misfortune.

Another aspect of fear of loss of control in knowing the truth of what is we will become aware of the "gifts" that we would have if the accessed, aligned with, and surrendered to our creative life energy. To fully enjoy the benefits of our work and the gifts they bring, the fruits of our labor, we must surrender to those gifts and the flow of energy within our being. This of course means stepping out of mind into the unknown rather than staying with what we have come to know. To surrender to our creative life energy, we need to rely on our body wisdom and intuitive guidance to guide us through life. Unless we have learned to trust and rely on the body wisdom and intuitive guidance, we will be lost for our mind cannot guide us safely thought the unknown. The mind can only protect against what we have experienced and cannot know what is unknown. We have to rely on feel and feelings is of the body and its sensations, not the mind. However, in being in the body wisdom and intuitive guidance, that in turn would allow one to "know" many things many of which our mind may prefer not to know.

Come to understand
we are not who we thought we were and who we think we are

If we looked back with clarity at the distance we have traveled in life and the experiences we have had many of us would probably be overwhelmed with all the feeling we would have about what we experienced. In seeing all that we have experienced at once, we would seriously question if we should know the intention which is behind our life. Given the nature of the landscape, the pain and suffering we have endured, the frustrations, the loss of what we love, the unfulfilled expectations and the like. We expect the future to be more of the same. We would wonder should we just leave it alone and not know. However, in knowing the past, we would find we were not who we thought we were. We would question who we were before we became who we are, or at least think we are. We would question if we really wanted to know for then we would know there was a process to transform ourselves from who we think we are and to explore who we were before we become who we are now and then decide who we will create in the future. For most this is too much to comprehend let alone do the work.

We each seem to have a need not to know exactly who and what we are and exactly how we create our experiences and how we create the reality we experience. There is simply too much for most of us to endure for we feel if we step back into the past consciously or nonconsciously, we will become stuck and unable to free ourselves. Consequently, it is much easier to forget and not know and remain in unknowing. However, we are already stuck in that past for it is what has created the present and is creating the future. What we fail to realize is our past has causes us to be exactly where we are now and what we are experience. We can look at it as karma, destiny or however else we wish, but it is seeing our own thinking manifested.

Rather than face that the truth of our being and the beliefs we hold to create the experiences we have, this need not to know can be so strong that it causes us to deny the Source of our own being and prevent us from aligning with our creative life energy access our true creative potential. We are free to create whatever we choose and our creative life energy is flowing into what we have chosen. In denying our role of choice in the process we deny the Source itself for we are saying it is flowing wrong when in fact it is only flowing in accordance with our beliefs. We are afraid to admit the Source is flowing true to what we ourselves have created.

More work to do

In seeing the truth as it is, we would find we would need to work to change what we think and believe to find a set of beliefs that allow us to recreate our lives to something which better serves us. What we are capable of knowing only depends on where we nonconsciously and/or consciously focus our attention and awareness. In knowing the truth, we would know things about the past and about the future, some of which we would prefer not to see.

Although in the end, our physical experience would be more enjoyable because we would be experiencing the reality we chose to create, the early work and possible pain is enough to keep most individual in the need not to know how they are creating what they experience. Here again, is another problem caused by mind. Even if mind can take us through to something more enjoyable, we stay with what we know.

If we look at the process that is required for us to step outside of the need not to know we would find we would have to develop the discipline to maintain a strong centered focus of attention and awareness on what we desired to create and not allow our mind to continually jump around continually distracted by the mundane world. Such a disciplined focus is extreme work to many people. However, when one is in the state of play that disciplined focus is present without any effort. It is natural to play. Here again we don’t fall into that natural flow path because we don’t find what we have come to do in the mundane world enjoyable and playful. Hence, it takes work and discipline to do what we need to do. Being out of play we need to develop a strong will to continue to maintain our focus no matter what obstacles arise in our life that seemed to prevent us from creating what we desired. Being in this mind and holding that focus takes work and it takes work to cut through the obstacles that stand in the way. Here again, rather than relearning to play, we stay in the mind to work our way thought the obstacles rather than playing our way though.

Seeing aspects of the future

In knowing the truth that is, then there is the future itself. In many ways we will know the future. We need to remember Physical Creation is a cause effect world. We can see and know how Creation is unfolding. We can see how it would or could unfold if certain choices are made or not made of if certain conditions are or are not met. Individuals have premonitions or strong intuitive feelings about important events in their lives and the lives of those close to them. Often these feelings are about impending death, injury, illness or some other type of loss, whether it be their loss or other people close to them and that frightens them. Rather than becoming like the wind, coming with nothing and leaving with nothing, we hold to our attachments and have a need not to know. However, knowing the past and the future is not the real problem. It is the excuse.

A summary thought

Until we are ready to see reality for what it really is and take responsibility for how we think and what we believe we will live in a need not to know. The choice is ours. Only we can make the choice and do the work. However, if we are willing to relearn how to play, we can find we can create a very gentle way for our own transformation and anything we wish to create.

To step out of the need not to know and move into the awareness that is available to each of us, we need to face the pain we feel we need to face, both our own pain and the pain of others. A developed body wisdom and intuitive guidance will always lead to knowing exactly what needs to be done to make the journey as gentle as possible. But to open ourselves up to our body wisdom and intuitive guidance we will need to relearn how to feel and be fully open to what we feel.
